Jumping Right In!

As I complete my master's program, one of the final projects was to complete an original contribution of my choosing.  I chose to follow in the tech footsteps of my amazing friend Brandee Green (high five, my friend) and dive into the blogging world!
For this project, the logistics were fairly simple.  Write an amazing introductory post and to the newly formed blogspot, email my peers to connect and watch the stories pour in.  My hope is this blog serves as a friendly place where educators can come and share amazing stories from our classrooms and school events, and to also give support and encouragement to each other in this crazy field we all love and work for tirelessly.   As timing is everything, my district has launched a new initiative (kick started today, in fact) that strives to affect our local and school cultures in a positive way.  What a great way to begin my blog than with that GREAT message of filling the internet with positive messages about our craft, our kids and the crazy life we all lead.  #AffecttheCulture will be listed throughout my posts and will be the central theme of my blog along with my personal title “Something Special”.

I chose that name because it is what I do.  As a 23 year veteran teacher of special needs students, I can attest to the hundreds of students I have personally seen that have overcome so many obstacles to make their own way in this world.  They work so very hard to achieve the smallest of things and I personally want to celebrate!  As I finish up my coursework for my Master’s Degree, my heart is simply bursting with pride.  I’ve had the opportunity to shadow some amazing people and to hear their stories; some good, some bad, but all with the most sincere advice on how to handle most situations.  Throughout my program at American College of Education, I was often asked to stretch my thinking, consider other viewpoints and look at issues through a broad lens.  I was asked to then problem solve using research to find ways in which I could handle these as a future administrator.

A Little Welcome

Diving into the blogging world will prove to be challenging for this veteran educator, but here we go.  The intent of this blog is to share anything we as educators consider "special".  As a teacher of special needs children, I see fantastic things happen. Every. Single. Day!  What a wonderful way to make our days a little brighter than to share stories and celebrations we see as we go through our days!

Share here so we can all celebrate the special things in your classrooms and buildings!
